Rise & Ride at KHS
On the morning of May 22nd, with Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off' playing over a speaker, well over 50 students started their day at Kings Highway School's fIrst Rise n' Ride. Participants rode loops around the track behind the school. Officers Gunter and Hall of the Westport Police Department provided a safety talk on the importance of always wearing a helmet.
This event was in collaboration with Bike Westport in an effort to promote safer cycling and walking in Westport. Thanks also to the support of Sara Holland Sports who attended to teach kids to ride and to Johan Rodriguez of Smart Cycles for bicycle maintenance.
"What an incredible and energizing way to start the day. This might be the start of a new tradition at KHS." (Tracey Carbone, Principal KHS)
"There was nothing more joyful than seeing the happy children's faces, enjoying their independence pedaling on their own" (Markus Marty, Bike Westport)
