May 15: Rise & Ride

Kings Highway Elementary School is holding its first “Rise and Ride” event on Wednesday, May 15th at 8:15 AM. "Rise and Ride" is supported by Bike Westport (bikewestport.org), a local non-profit organization advocating for safer streets for cyclists and pedestrians.

This event follows after the Westport Police Department has done a series of bike safety presentations for the KHS students on May 3rd. Officer Gunter covered topics such as helmet fitting, proper bicycle etiquette, road biking rules and regulations, and safety equipment checks.

KHS Students are encouraged to gather at the track behind the school at 8:15 AM for some loop rides before the school day begins at 8:45 AM. Remember to bring your bike and helmet.

We'll be joined by the Westport Police Department Bicycle Unit for added safety and guidance. We will have two local vendors present as well.

LEARN TO RIDE: Sara Holland Sports (IG @thesarahollandsports) will be supplying scooters, balance bikes and pedal bikes for those who don't have their own bikes. This is your chance to learn to ride or perfect your skill!

BIKE MAINTENANCE & SAFETY: Smart Cycles Bike Shop will be there to educate kids on how to maintain their bikes in great shape and keep them in safe riding condition.
