As more parents drive their kids to school, walkable, cyclable infrastructure is sacrificed to make room for a growing school car line—this infrastructure tradeoff happens in the design of roads, and in the design of schools themselves. Without a safe route of bike lanes, sidewalks and crosswalks, it becomes more dangerous for kids to walk or bike, and more cars are added to the school car line, fueling the feedback loop.

 In the face of this feedback loop, the humble schoolbus remains a solid contender.
